Memphis, Tennessee, is located in the southwestern part of the state near the Mississippi River. This huge metropolitan area sprawls out through Tennessee and spills over into northern Mississippi and eastern Arkansas. This tri-state hub plays a major role in the transportation industry. Memphis is the home of three Fortune 500 companies-FedEx, AutoZone and International Paper-as well.

Memphians embrace their history with open arms and spectacular celebrations. Memphis was once the world's largest cotton market; was at the center of the civil rights movement; and was the birthplace of some of the country's greatest music and home to some of its greatest musicians. You can learn more about the city's history and culture at a museum or on a tour. Or, you can experience Memphis culture firsthand at one of the many summer festivals.

Visitors and residents of the Mid-South know Memphis as the home of blues and rock ‘n roll and its King. Popular tourist destinations in Memphis are centered on the music industry. Graceland, the second most visited house in the United States, attracts music aficionados from all over the globe. The former home to Rock ‘n Roll icon and music legend Elvis Presley, the King's mansion symbolizes Memphis's strong roots in the music culture.

Fans of blues and rock, as well as any other genre of music, will find plenty of local and national bands playing in various venues across the city. Beale Street in particular houses a large amount of downtown Memphis's nightlife and music festivals.
